Money to Burn Slots: Two Types of Scatter Symbol
There are two ways to win which are separate from the line-hits. These are scatter symbols, which pay based on the number appearing anywhere on the reels.
The biggest prize is 100 times your total bet. This comes when you hit 5 of the firefighter scatters. You'll get 10x for 4 and 2x for 3 of these.
There are also clothing scatter symbols. These symbols all have blue surrounds and are easy to distinguish from the other symbols. There is only one prize for these, get any 3 in any stop position on the reels and you will win 10x your total bet.
Entertaining Second Screen Fire Bonus
Old style fire alarm bells take you to a second screen bonus. You need 3+ on an active pay line. There are some benefits to getting more than three. Five will get you 300x your line bet, 4 get 50x and the minimum 3 pays 10x.
You'll hear an alarm sound and the reels are replaced by a building, showing 3 rows of windows – all on fire. Below this building are three fire trucks. You need to pick a truck, which will determine which floor you get to play on.
Floor 1 has awards from 10 to 100x your line bet. Floor 2 is 15 to 150x and floor 3 is 20 to 200x.
You now have 3 picks. Each flame will become animated for a while, showing a face. It then reveals your win. If you get a fire extinguisher from your picks, you will win all the awards on that floor. With the top floor – this has the potential to be a significant win!
Setup and Wins in the Money to Burn Slots:
Most new slots have 40 or more win-lines. Money to Burn comes from an earlier time, when 9 was more common. These pay from left to right over a 5x3 set of reels. You can play fewer win-lines if you want, via the ‘lines' button. This game has a 5c denomination, so the minimum spin for all the lines is 45c. You can add a multiplier to bet more.
There are wild symbols in play. These are more flexible than most wilds. They can replace the bonus symbols and regular ones – with only the special ‘clothing' scatters not included.
The highest paying symbols say ‘Burn'. 5 of these on a win-line gets you 7777x your line bet. The prizes go down keeping the 7's theme. You get 777x for 4, 77x for 3, 7x for 2 and 2x your line bet for just a single one on the left-hand reel.
Next comes a dog in a cage, fire truck and fire hydrant. Axes and ladders make up the smaller wins.
Retro Flaming Design Features
Depending on your view point, this game could be called classic / retro – or just plain ‘old'. It comes from a time when video slots were new. The graphics look dated, with a basic cartoon-like feel. Having LCD displays for your balance, bets, lines and wins beneath the reels completes the retro feel.
There are no animations on the reels, though the second screen bonus game has flickering flames which become animated when you select them. You'll get plenty of sound effects, think crackling flames and alarm bells.
Will the Money to Burn Slots Heat Up Your Bankroll?
Despite the retro feel, there is a lot to like about Money to Burn from WMS. With only 9 win-lines in play, there are much bigger line wins available than on more modern games. There are also two types of scatter symbol – plus wilds that can replace the bonus symbols.
The picks game will usually only pay smaller amounts. If you are lucky enough to get the top floor, plus hit the extinguisher symbol, you can win big from this.

And sadly, while I didn't crack it, it was still a lot of fun! The standard game is lines-based where you win by landing winning paylines although there is a primary bonus called the 'Second Screen Bonus' and a Scatter bonus.
During the Second Screen Bonus, you first choose a fire truck to determine your floor, then you choose 3 windows for credit awards and if you are lucky, you can choose a fire extinguisher symbol and be awarded all credit awards on that floor!
The Scatter Bonus is awarded by landing special symbols on reels 3, 4, and 5 for 10x your total bet.
